Why we’re getting behind Harriet Pearce and Jamie Cooke for London 2012.
We are delighted to announce that we are now supporting local hockey player Harriet Pearce and local modern pentathlete Jamie Cooke, as they attempt to qualify for a place the Olympic Games.
Following the appointment of BMW Group as the Official Automotive Partner of the 2012 Games, BMW is now actively supporting British athletes, such as Ellie Simmonds and Louis Smith, via the BMW London 2012 Performance Team. Meanwhile, in line with the Performance Team initiative, BMW dealers like us will be working with local athletes, supporting their endeavours to qualify for Team GB or ParalympicsGB.
Harriet Pearce - Hockey
Cheltenham-born Harriet has been playing hockey since she was 12. Now aged 22, she has won gold at the Australian Youth Olympics and the U18 European Championships, and silver at the Four Nations Championships at U18 level. When asked how she felt about Cotswold and BMW, she said: “Jamie and I are really grateful for the support. It’s tough trying to qualify for a place at the Olympic Games and it’s a big help knowing that Cotswold and BMW are behind us.”
Jamie Cooke - Modern Pentathlete
At just 20, Jamie is ranked number one Modern Pentathlete in Britain, fifth in the junior world ranking and 46 in senior. He was a silver medallist in 2008 at the Under 18s World Championships and was crowned European Champion in 2009. “It’s fantastic having a brand new car from Cotswold and BMW,” said Jamie. “We do a lot of travelling so it’s great that we have the cars from now until the end of the 2012 Games - and that we can arrive everywhere in style!”
Andrew Hulcoop, Cotswold Group Managing Director, said: “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to get really involved in the Games. We’re really happy to be backing Harriet and Jamie - especially since they’re both local athletes working extremely hard to represent their country at London 2012.”
